Joyce Hamer

With a heavy heart, I want to provide the following information. Joyce Hamer was such a sweet lady, with a huge heart. She was so excited to volunteer last year as our Kindergarten catechist. Unfortunately, before Christmas her health deteriorated and she was not able to finish the year. She has been in my prayers for the past year and now she is at rest with the Lord.

Today our second graders and fifth graders received their bibles for the PSR School year with a blessing from out Pastor Fr. Gerry Reinersman.

Catholics globally hear scripture readings at daily and Sunday mass. Scripture readings are biblical; therefore, the Bible plays an important role in the life of a Catholic. The importance of scripture is revealed in the catechism of the Catholic Church, which states that the authors of the Bible were divinely inspired.

The catechism of the Catholic Church states that both scripture and tradition must be equally honored. The Bible itself speaks of tradition. The apostle Paul writes to the Thessalonians and instructs them to uphold the traditions that they were taught either by the spoken word or by letters written by the apostles (2 Thessalonians 2:15).

OPEN HOUSE/Registration: AUGUST 14th

WHY SHOULD YOUR CHILD ATTEND PSR?

  • Do you have a child attending a public or non-catholic private school between Kindergarten and 8th grade?
  • Does your child plan on receiving a sacrament next year?
  • Does your child attend Covington Latin or Villa and is of age to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion or Confirmation?
  • Do you want your children to continue the faith traditions that have been passed onto you by our Catholic family
** If you answered yes to any of these questions and your child doesn't attend a school that will fulfill their faith formation for the sacraments, then your child needs to attend our Parish School of Religion! **

PRAYERS ANSWERED: CATECHIST POSITIONS FILLED!

The theme for this upcoming school year is 'Love one another as I have loved you.'  As I reflect upon one of the scripture verses that these words come from John 13:34-35, it reflects the love that those who are called to teach reflect.  “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

We are so blessed to have catechists that volunteer their time to partner with the parents of our parish in the faith formation of their children.  They not only teach the faith, but live it through their everyday lives.  They are a reflection of God's love to pass on the faith as they do it in his name.  Not to receive recognition, but just doing what they have been called to do.  It is through their call, and the Holy Spirit that they will connect with the youth and bring them to the faith that we revere and love so much.

Returning for the upcoming school year we have Ceil Gubser (1st), Linda Goetz (2nd), Kathy Burkhardt (3rd), Greg Franzen (4th), Beth Lauer (5th) and Kari Fischer(8th) and our secretary Tara Goetz.

You may recognize our new Kindergarten catechist if you have attended any Drama shows, no it's not our current catechist Beth Lauer or Kari Fischer, but Nancy Caudill. Not only do these ladies volunteer their time for the show typically from October until February but they will also be offering their talent here in our program.

Carol Enzweiler felt the nudge to answer the call for our 6th grade catechist position. I was so excited when she reached out to fill our last position that was still open.  She has been friends with my mother and involved in Christ Renews His Parish, offering her time and talent to the parish where she can.

And finally Cyndy Brock is returning and instead of co-teaching with Beth she will be teaching the 7th grade. 17 years ago I became involved in the program as a teacher's aide, then taught the 5th grade for three years. Cyndy was the one who asked if I would be interested in the CRE position and here I am in this role for the past 13 years with three children in the program.  I am so appreciative of the parents that love their faith so much, that even though their children don't go to a private school, they ensure that they attend our program for their faith formation.

Did I say 17 years?  Yes and don't think that you have to commit this long when you answer the call. How long you serve is between you and your calling.  However; I couldn't imagine my Sundays any other way.  Thank you again for your prayers and I ask that you continue to pray for our Catechists and PSR families during this school year.

PSR SERVICE HOURS for KIDS BOOTH

Here is what we have so far committed from our PSR Families for the Kids Booth at the upcoming Festival.

We officially have the Tic Tac Toe Booth.

Everything will be set up for us, just show up and work.  (Instructions on how to play it will be at the booth).

In learning to do for others, we hope that our children will see that their faith necessitates action and that our Catholic faith in particular is a service oriented faith. As Christ ministered to others, we also need to do so.

In Scripture, we are told, “For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without good works is dead.” (James 2:26)

Thank you to all the families that volunteered and for those out of town - safe travels.  Looking forward to another successful festival for the Parish.

Formed Meeting - 24APR16

Parents/Guardians:

Next Sunday, April 24th, we will have our fourth session of Symbolon 'Formed' Meeting during PSR (9:40AM - 11AM) in the Library.

Session 4: The Story of Salvation

The story of salvation began with Creation itself—and a decision made then that affects all of us to this present day. How did the events of an ancient past set into motion God's rescue-operation to save us from an eternal death?

First Communion Meeting 20APR16

April 17, 2016

Dear Parents of Second Graders,

First Communion preparation time is here. This is a special time for you and your child. On Wednesday, April 20th a combined First Communion Meeting and Enrollment Ceremony will be held in Church at 7:00 PM. Parents and children attend together. On your way into church please pick up your packet of information from the tables located in the entrance.

During the meeting there will be an Enrollment prayer service for parents and children. Father Reinersman will speak about First Communion and the teachers will explain the packet of information. Patterns for First Communion symbols to be displayed on banners will be given at this time.

May this time of preparation be a blessed and spiritually fruitful time for you and your child.

Session Three: The Bible - God's Love Letter to Humanity

This Sunday, January 24th, we will have our third session of Symbolon 'Formed' Meeting during PSR (9:40AM - 11AM) in the Library.

Session 3: The Bible

Is the Bible more than just a collection of ancient writings, more than simply an important historical document to be appreciated but ultimately dismissed? Is it possible that God reveals His truth to us through "Sacred Scripture"? If so, what does that really mean for our faith?
Thank you for your continued support not only in this program, but in the faith of your children.  Your example of what it means to be a Catholic and how we live our faith in our daily lives is more powerful than anything that can be taught through a text book.
We hope to see you there, Coffee and muffins will be provided and we will meet in the Library.  Please email saintjosephpsr@gmail.com, so that we have an accurate count for supplies and food.
